Unlocking the Abstract

Thursday 7^th October, 10am – 4pm, £85 per person              

Learn to free up your painting style by exploring exciting abstract painting techniques through a series of exploratory studies and exercises on paper. This will help you to simplify your work, whilst improving your understanding of mark-making, layering, tone and composition. You can use the workshop as a chance to purely experiment and/or work towards creating an abstract painting using acrylics, pastel and collage.

A day to explore abstract concepts and ideas, loosen up your painting style and 'have a go' at painting in an abstract style. We will be painting with a limited palette of acrylics and mixed-media on paper.
You’ll gain a better understanding of abstract concepts and develop a more confident approach. We will be creating lots of studies on paper to help you to work freely and explore new ideas. Best suited for more confident painters or beginners with enthusiasm who want to explore abstract ideas; the fast workers may wish to produce a more finished painting in the afternoon, but the studies provide everyone with a wealth of ideas for future paintings. It will be an exciting and challenging day with a small group of artists. 

Venue: The Fancy Loft, Farnham Pottery, Wrecclesham, Farnham GU10 4ND Please note, there is no wheelchair access and a small flight of stairs to access the loft. 

Materials and lunch are not provided. You will be sent a materials list and will be expected to bring a basic set of materials for the day including acrylics, brushes and a paper to paint on. Easels and boards are provided. 

Please bring your own lunch and any refreshments for the day. There is also an enticing selection of food and drinks available to purchase from the cafe on site, which should be open.

We will adhere to latest Covid guidelines on the day. Under the current guidelines tables will be spaced 2 metres apart, it is recommended that you wear a mask when moving around the room, but may remove it whilst seated. Hand sanitiser will be available and there is a sink in the room. Windows will be open for ventilation and distancing observed.
