How to commission a painting

A painting exactly as you imagined

Commissioning a painting is an exciting process to create a bespoke painting that perfectly suits your needs.

I work closely with you to ensure we have great communication; my experience and close attention to detail ensures that your finished painting exceeds all your expectations.

The Commission process

Research

  • Look at the room and plan your ideal colour palette, shape, size and mood. Read through How to find the perfect painting for some ideas. Measure the space and consider the light in the room.
  • Look through my shop and consider what you like or don't like.  Review my archive gallery for further inspiration. Are you drawn to more abstract pieces or do you prefer something more realistic or atmospheric?

Get in touch

  • Email me with an outline of your thoughts and ideas. Arrange an appointment at the gallery, or phone me, to discuss the project.

Proposal

  •  When we have verbally agreed on the ideas, I will email a proposal outlining all details including the colour palette, composition, medium (i.e acrylic/oil/watercolour paint), support (the type of surface the painting will be on i.e. canvas), size and price. Where needed a small colour visual on paper can be produced.

Agreement

  • If you are happy with the proposal I will require a 50% deposit before proceeding, with the balance payable on completion. Prices are based on the size, support and complexity of the commission.

Timing

  • A commission may take 4-6 weeks. This depends on my schedule and the project's complexity, but I will endeavour to work to any specific deadlines.

Delivery

  • I will contact you as soon as the painting is ready for delivery so we can arrange a viewing of the finished work in the gallery, or at your home. Any small adjustments can be made if needed.

Framing

  • If the work requires framing this will take place after the painting has been completed and approved.

Interior Designers / Art Consultants

If you require artwork for an interiors project please get in touch. I regularly work with interior designers or art consultants and I am happy to provide a portfolio of exciting images to meet your brief, meet on site to discuss requirements, deliver artwork for client approval or undertake commissions.

If you are looking for an interior designer to work with please ask, as I have some wonderful contacts and would be happy to recommend someone to suit your needs.
